NEW HARTFORD — The New Hartford Police Department responded to Mohawk Street at the intersection with Kingfisher Lane for a motor vehicle collision at just before 1 a.m. today.
Upon arrival police officers found one person, later identified as 20-year-old Matthew Lipinski, of Sauquoit, injured in the roadway.
Further investigation by police determined that Lipinski was operating a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Mohawk Street toward Higby Road when Lipinski lost control of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle left the paved portion of road and entered a grass covered ditch and then struck a concrete culvert.
Upon striking the culvert Lipinski was ejected from the motorcycle.
Lipinski landed in the roadway and the motorcycle continued further, colliding with signage in the area.
Lipinski was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse for non-life threatening injuries.
Edwards Ambulance and The New Hartford Fire Department assisted at the scene.
New York state vehicle and traffic law charges are pending against Lipinski.
Speed as well as operator licensing and experience were determined to be contributing factors.
