AUBURN — Officers from the Auburn Police Department were in the area of Oak Creek Town Homes to check on a large block style party when officers heard multiple gun shots from the adjoining street of Chapman Avenue around 9:38 p.m. Saturday.
Officers ran to the location and found one male with a handgun who threw the gun to the ground when ordered by police and was subsequently taken into custody.
Another male was seen laying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police began to administer aid to the victim with the gunshot wounds until Fire and EMS arrived and took over.
The victim was transferred to Auburn Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The male with the gun that was taken into custody was identified as Davon Dixon and he was subsequently arrested in connection with the death of the male victim.
Davon M. Dixon, 35, of 179 Cottage St., was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and murder in the second degree, a class A1 felony.
The identity of the victim is not being released out of respect for the family and upon all proper notifications.
The Auburn Police Department was assisted by personnel from the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police, and the Cayuga County Coroner’s Office due to the large number of people that were present at both Chapman Avenue and the hospital.
