2 shot in Auburn, Syracuse man arrested on weapon charge

AUBURN — Officers from the Auburn Police Department responded to the area of State St. @ Perrine St. for a shots fired incident around 12:53 a.m. Sunday while still working a fatal gun-related shooting.

Multiple shots were fired and a person of interest was detained in the area, police said.

It was determined that at least six gun rounds had been fired.

Two people had been shot as the incident unfolded.

Both victims were transferred to Upstate University Hospital for treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

The male that had been detained was identified as Leon Shorter and he was subsequently arrested in connection with the shooting.

Leon D. Shorter, 34, of 818 Tallman St., Syracuse, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a felony.

The Auburn Police Department was assisted by personnel from the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police due to the large number of people that were present at all locations.
