2 killed in separate weekend crashes in Deerfield, Hadley

DEERFIELD — Two unrelated motor vehicle fatalities occurred over the weekend in Deerfield and Hadley and remain under investigation by police authorities.

A 17-year-old Hatfield teen died after a car he was driving rolled over and struck a fire hydrant in Deerfield on Greenfield Road shortly before noon Sunday.

A passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment.

An 82-year-old Hadley man died from injuries sustained after being struck by two cars on Route 9 in Hadley Sunday night.

The pedestrian fatality occurred on Route 9 near 73 Russell Road shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Deerfield crash remains under investigation by Deerfield Police, State Police detectives attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, and State Police troopers with the Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

The Hadley crash is being investigated by Hadley Police, State Police detectives attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, and State Police troopers with the Crime Scene Services Section and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

For both deaths, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
