Portland man stabbed on Wharf Street, South Portland suspect arrested

PORTLAND — Portland Police responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of 35 Wharf Street on Sunday, July 27 at 11:28 p.m.

Witnesses stated that two males were in an altercation when one pulled a knife and began to stab the other individual several times.

He then fled towards Dana Street.

Officers applied chest seals and other first aid measures to the individual while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

The 37-year-old male was transported to Maine Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

A suspect, who was located shortly after and involved in another altercation, was identified and taken into custody at Wharf and Union.

Samuel Gerry, 22, of South Portland was arrested and charged with Elevated Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of Cocaine, Trafficking in Prison Contraband and Falsifying Physical Evidence.

He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
