SOUTH BURLINGTON — A 43-year-old Barre man was arrested on Interstate 89 after allegedly providing false information to police and resisting arrest while walking on the highway Sunday afternoon.
Clinton L. Bell was charged with false information to police, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest following the incident at mile marker 86 on I-89 southbound at 2:42 p.m.
Vermont State Police troopers from the Williston barracks responded to reports of a person walking on I-89 southbound in the South Burlington area at approximately 2:13 p.m.
Troopers located Bell walking on the interstate and said he provided a false name during questioning.
Police said Bell was observed attempting to dispose of what was believed to be illicit drugs.
When troopers tried to prevent Bell from disposing of the suspected drugs, he resisted before being taken into custody, police said.
Bell was transported to the Williston State Police barracks for processing.
He was released with a criminal citation to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court on Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
