RED HOOK — Red Hook Police arrested a 36-year-old man Thursday after he fled from officers in an off-road vehicle the previous day.

Police patrols observed an off-road side by side UTV being operated on West Market Street in the village at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the illegally operated UTV but the driver failed to comply.

The UTV fled onto State Route 9G southbound at high rates of speed.

The vehicle fled into the Forest Park development and then into wooded areas.

On Thursday, patrols conducting a follow-up investigation located the vehicle and its driver at a residence in the Town of Red Hook.

The driver, Dirk J. Depuy, 36, was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless driving, both misdemeanors, as well as multiple traffic infractions.

Depuy was processed and released with a future court date.
