2 arrested in Hartland drug trafficking investigation

HARTLAND — The Windsor County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men on drug trafficking charges following reports of ongoing drug sales at a Henry Road residence.

Steven Gross, 51, of Hartland, was arrested on charges of trafficking fentanyl, trafficking cocaine (crack), possession of fentanyl and persons prohibited from possessing firearms.

Matthew Thomas, 40, of Hartland, was arrested on several in-state warrants and charged with possession of fentanyl.

The arrests occurred around 8:30 p.m. July 26 at 58 Henry Road after deputies responded to reports of drug sales at the location.

Sheriff Ryan Palmer, Deputy Jackson Howe, Detective Sergeant Richard King, Deputy Jabri Black, Deputy Hunter Buchanan and Windsor Police Officer Justin Abualjadail participated in the investigation.

Deputies seized approximately 50 bags of fentanyl and over an ounce of crack cocaine during the arrest.

Two vehicles owned by Gross were seized due to the presence of drugs and drug paraphernalia and were towed from the scene.

A search warrant will be applied for the residence.

Both suspects experienced medical issues and were transported to Mount Ascutney Hospital.

Thomas was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility on his warrants.

Both men are scheduled to appear in Windsor County court Sept. 16 at 8:30 a.m.
