East Greenbush man arrested on child exploitation charges

SCHODACK — State Police arrested a 28-year-old East Greenbush man Tuesday on charges related to child sexual exploitation.

Erik G. Mitchell faces charges of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class D felony, and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a class E felony.

State Police of Schodack made the arrest with assistance from the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the East Greenbush Police Department.

Mitchell is accused of promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation.

The investigation began with a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Police executed a search warrant at Mitchell’s East Greenbush residence on July 18.

Mitchell was located in Castleton on Tuesday and transported to State Police Schodack, where he was arrested and processed.

He was arraigned at Schodack Town Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash or a $50,000 partially secured bond.
