HAVERSTRAW — A 32-year-old Haverstraw man was arrested July 24 after police found him in possession of a loaded firearm while serving outstanding warrants.
Daquan Kelly was taken into custody at approximately 10:56 p.m. when Haverstraw Police Department officers on routine patrol spotted him inside a local business.
Kelly was known to have two active warrants for his arrest.
A search incident to arrest revealed Kelly was carrying a loaded .380 caliber firearm, police said.
Kelly became combative and resisted arrest while officers attempted to secure him in a patrol vehicle for transport to police headquarters.
Kelly was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, along with resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, both class A misdemeanors.
He was arraigned in Village of Haverstraw Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility.
The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted with the arrest.
