Newburgh police arrest teen after shot spotter alert leads to weapons charges

NEWBURGH — City of Newburgh Police responded at approximately 6:47 p.m. July 21 to a Shot Spotter activation near 144 Lander St.

Officers and detectives arrived on the scene and determined that several suspects had fled into 138 Johnston St.

Police established a perimeter and conducted a protective sweep of the residence, locating all suspects inside.

All suspects were transported to the City of Newburgh Police Department.

Authorities executed a search warrant at 138 Johnston St. for additional evidence.

Following an investigation, police charged a 15-year-old City of Newburgh resident with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a Class C felony, and reckless endangerment in the first degree, a Class D felony.

The City of Newburgh Detective Division and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force continue to investigate the incident.

The Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force includes personnel from the City of Newburgh Detective Division, Orange County District Attorney’s Office Investigators, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Investigator, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
