COLONIE — The Colonie Police Department has arrested a Menands man accused of embezzling more than $120,000 from the Latham Soccer Club over a period of nearly five years.

According to police, the department’s Investigations Division launched a probe in October 2022 after a club representative reported suspected embezzlement by the organization’s former treasurer.

Detectives conducted a financial analysis of both the club’s accounts and the personal banking records of the former treasurer, William J. Nevins.

Investigators allege that from September 2017 to May 2022, Nevins used the club’s checking account to pay for personal expenses, unlawfully diverting more than $120,000.

Nevins, 54, was arrested and arraigned the evening of July 23 in Colonie Town Court.

He was released on his own recognizance.

Nevins is charged with grand larceny in the second degree, a felony, for allegedly misappropriating property valued at more than $50,000.

Police said the investigation remains active.
