SOUTH BURLINGTON — A California woman scheduled for release from the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center was instead charged as a fugitive from justice after authorities discovered multiple outstanding warrants against her.

Jeanne M. Medel Garay, 46, a transient from California, was charged July 24 after Vermont State Police troopers were notified at approximately 12:31 p.m. that she had active extraditable warrants from Virginia and Tennessee.
