Springfield police arrest man on gun, drug trafficking charges

SPRINGFIELD — Springfield police officers seized a loaded firearm and approximately 20 grams of cocaine while arresting a 42-year-old man early Wednesday morning.

Officers arrested Noel Martinez of Springfield at approximately 1:35 a.m. July 23 after responding to a gun call on Saratoga Street about 10 minutes earlier.

Police received information that a suspect, later identified as Martinez, pointed a gun at a victim and was inside a convenience store on the 600 block of Main Street.

Officers located and detained Martinez at the store.

During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded firearm and approximately 20 grams of cocaine on Martinez.

Martinez faces six charges: carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving stolen property less than $1,200, assault with a dangerous weapon, and cocaine trafficking 18-36 grams.
