Police investigate social media threat in Worcester

WORCESTER — Police officers responded to reports of a possible social media threat involving weapons in the area of lower West Boylston Street on July 23 at approximately 12:41 p.m.

After conducting an initial investigation, officers determined that the possible threat was not connected to the area, according to the Worcester Police Department.

The incident prompted authorities to advise the public to avoid the area of lower West Boylston Street, near the Interstate 190 exit and Huntington Avenue, during the ongoing situation.

Police have since declared the incident over and stated there is no danger to the public.

The area has been reopened to normal traffic.

The incident remains under investigation.
