2 killed in head-on crash involving motorcycles in Clayton

CLAYTON — A preliminary investigation determined that a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Justin Lemire, age 35, with passenger Shelia Lemire, age 47, both of Lafargeville, were traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of CR-181 when it struck an eastbound 2014 GMC Terrain.

As a result of the impact, the GMC rolled over and caught fire.

Both occupants of the motorcycle were ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

A second motorcycle, a 2006 Harley Davidson operated by Johnathan Heyl, age 52, of Chaumont, was traveling westbound on CR-181 and struck debris from the initial collision.

Heyl was ejected and sustained serious injuries.

He was treated at the scene and later airlifted by Lifenet to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, where he remains under medical care.

The operator of the GMC Terrain, Madison Kahler, age 26, and her passenger, Eric June, age 37, both of Gouverneur, were evaluated at the scene and declined transport to a hospital.
