WOLCOTT — Troopers from the New York State Police at SP Wolcott responded to 6182 Lake Avenue in the village of Wolcott, Wayne County, for a reported stabbing on July 17 at approximately 11:46 a.m.
Upon arrival, troopers located 33-year-old Devell Taylor, who had sustained multiple stab wounds.
Taylor was conscious and alert at the scene and was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center for treatment.
Medical staff advised that his injuries were non-life-threatening but required observation in the ICU.
An investigation by State Police investigators and uniform members revealed that a 17-year-old was allegedly responsible for the stabbing.
During a domestic dispute that occurred earlier that morning, Taylor allegedly became physically aggressive in the presence of four children.
The incident escalated to the point where the 17-year-old intervened by stabbing Taylor multiple times.
The 17-year-old was taken into custody and charged as an Adolescent Offender with assault 2nd, a D felony, and criminal possession of a weapon 4th, an A misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Wayne County CAP Court and released to the custody of a relative on electronic monitoring.
He is scheduled to appear in Wayne County Youth Part Court on July 18.
On July 20, as a result of the investigation, Devell Taylor, age 33, of Wolcott, was charged with criminal mischief 3rd, an E felony, endangering the welfare of a child, an A misdemeanor, and harassment 2nd, a violation.
He was processed at SP Wolcott and transported to Wayne County Jail for CAP arraignment.
