FREETOWN — A 33-year-old man faces multiple felony charges including attempted manslaughter after allegedly firing shots into occupied residences during incidents on July 15 and 16.
Michael J. Bellefleur Jr. of Liberty Road was arrested Friday at 9:53 a.m. at the Public Safety Building following an investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers received multiple reports of shots fired in townships within the southern portion of Cortland County on July 15 and 16.
The investigation revealed multiple instances of property damage as well as shots being fired into occupied residences.
Investigators determined Bellefleur was responsible for firing the shots in two incidents within the Town of Freetown.
Officers executed multiple search warrants and recovered multiple weapons and ammunition from Bellefleur’s vehicle and residence.
Bellefleur faces five counts of attempted manslaughter in the second degree, six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal mischief, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and three counts of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling or farm building.
He was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8:00 p.m. Friday and remanded to Cortland County Jail on $30,000 bail or $100,000 bond.
Bellefleur is scheduled to appear in Freetown Town Court on Aug. 20 at 5:00 p.m.
The investigation is ongoing with additional charges pending.
