CHENANGO — A Frankfort man was arrested on driving while intoxicated and stolen property charges after crashing a motorcycle into a fence Thursday night.
David L. Osborn, 46, was charged following a 10:19 p.m. incident near the Speedway gas station on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango.
Broome County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a dispute call and found a running motorcycle that had struck a chain-link fence near the rear of the gas station.
Witnesses reported the driver crashed into the fence before leaving the scene and hiding behind a nearby Price Chopper building.
Deputies located Osborn behind the Price Chopper and he requested medical assistance for multiple injuries.
Osborn told deputies his injuries were from previous motorcycle accidents earlier in the week.
He was transported to UHS Wilson Hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, Osborn displayed slurred speech, balance issues and other signs of intoxication, according to deputies.
At the hospital, Osborn consented to field sobriety tests, which led to his arrest for DWI.
Deputies said Osborn became irate and confrontational with hospital staff before appearing to fall asleep.
Osborn was found to have a suspended driver’s license, no motorcycle license and multiple outstanding warrants.
The motorcycle was determined to have been stolen from Binghamton in a separate investigation by Binghamton Police.
Osborn was charged with driving while intoxicated, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree and seven traffic violations.
He was issued appearance tickets returnable to Town of Chenango Court and will be processed on the charges following his discharge from medical care.
