North Hero crash leaves 1 dead, 2 injured on US Route 2

NORTH HERO — A fatal three-vehicle crash occurred on US Route 2 near Savage Point Road on June 15 at 1:47 p.m., leaving one motorcyclist dead and two others injured.

Ellen Willson, 38, of St. Albans was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado southbound when she crossed the center line into the northbound lane, striking two motorcycles traveling north.

Hunter Rounds, 20, of Grand Isle, who was operating a 2009 Honda CBR 600, died from his injuries at the scene.

Jason Rounds, 51, of Grand Isle, who was operating a 2019 Honda CBR 600RR, sustained serious injuries and was transported to University of Vermont Medical Center in stable condition.

Willson suffered minor injuries and was cleared at University of Vermont Medical Center before being arrested.

Vermont State Police, North Hero Fire Department, and Grand Isle Rescue responded to the collision.

Weather conditions were clear and sunny with clear road conditions at the time of the crash.

Both motorcycles were totaled, while Willson’s pickup truck sustained heavy front-end damage.

Willson was processed at the St. Albans Barracks and issued citations for gross negligent operator with death resulting and gross negligent operation with serious bodily injury.

She is scheduled to appear in Grand Isle County Court on Aug. 7 at 9 a.m.
