Norwich man arrested on warrant for alleged burglary, assault

NORWICH — Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Town of Norwich man on July 18 on an active arrest warrant.

Thomas J. Kopec, 39, was arrested on the warrant issued out of the Town of Plymouth Court from an incident dating back to May 31.

It is alleged that Kopec broke into a residence in the Town of Plymouth and assaulted the victims inside the home.

Kopec then fled the scene before deputies responded, which resulted in the warrant of arrest.

Kopec was arrested without incident and arraigned in the Centralized Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail.

Kopec is charged with burglary in the second degree, criminal mischief in the second degree, aggravated criminal contempt, aggravated sexual abuse in the third degree, criminal obstruction of breath/blood circulation and unlawful imprisonment in the second degree.

Kopec is to appear in court on a later date.
