DARTMOUTH — Police arrested a 40-year-old Woonsocket man in connection with an armed robbery at a local smoke shop.

Muhammad Sheikh was taken into custody by Providence police after Dartmouth officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at King Smoke Shop at 255 State Road on July 18 at approximately 6:18 p.m.

Police said Sheikh entered the business and brandished a knife.

Sheikh threatened several employees with the weapon, making verbal threats to kill them while slashing the knife toward them, according to police.

Sheikh then removed the cash register containing approximately $700 from the counter before fleeing the scene in a gray Honda Civic registered to him, police said.

Dartmouth police immediately issued a “Be On The Look Out” alert to neighboring law enforcement agencies.

Providence police subsequently located the suspect vehicle in their city and took Sheikh into custody.

Sheikh will be charged with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, threat to commit a crime, assault and battery, malicious destruction of property and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
