Woman charged with DUI in Tinmouth rear-end crash

TINMOUTH — Vermont State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 133 and Route 140 on July 20 at 5:15 p.m.

Alice Furman, 75, of West Rutland was driving a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek that struck the rear of a 2022 Honda HR-V operated by Ashley Carleton, 37, of Florence.

Carleton was traveling east on Route 133 and had slowed to make a right turn onto Route 140 when Furman’s vehicle struck her from behind.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Carleton sustained minor injuries but was not transported to a hospital.

Furman was not injured.

Furman’s vehicle sustained significant front-end damage while Carleton’s vehicle had significant rear-end damage.

Troopers observed signs of impairment while speaking with Furman at the scene.

Furman was screened and subsequently arrested for driving under the influence.

She was transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing and released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Rutland Criminal Division on August 4 at 10 a.m.

Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
