TICONDEROGA — A 29-year-old Ticonderoga man was arrested July 16 on charges of attempted murder in the second degree in connection with an April 13 stabbing incident.
Jacob T. Sawyer was taken into custody without incident by the Tri-County SRT during the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Trout Brook Road.
The Ticonderoga Police Department contacted the New York State Police, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tri-County SRT for assistance with the search warrant.
The arrest stems from an altercation involving a stabbing that occurred April 13, to which the Ticonderoga Police Department responded.
Sawyer was transported to the Ticonderoga Police Department for processing and was held in the Essex County Jail pending arraignment.
Sawyer’s mother, Sharri L. Merritt, 49, of Ticonderoga, was also arrested on charges of hindering prosecution.

The Ticonderoga Police Department, New York State Police, and Essex County Sheriff’s Department executed multiple search warrants and conducted investigations to gather evidence related to the April 13 incident.
On July 17, Sawyer was arraigned in the Town of Ticonderoga Court, where he was remanded to the Essex County Jail.
His bail was set at $250,000 in cash, $500,000 in bond, or $1,000,000 in partially secured bond.
