ALBANY — A 15-year-old male from Watervliet has been charged with weapon possession following an incident on Second Street.
On Thursday, July 17 around 1:20 a.m., on-duty Albany police officers attempted to stop a group of individuals on foot on the 200 block of Second Street in regard to an ongoing investigation.
As the officers approached, the individuals fled, resulting in a foot pursuit.
The 15-year-old male was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, during which he was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun.
Two separate Albany Police units responding in an emergency capacity to assist their fellow officers were involved in a collision.
The accident between the two Albany Police vehicles occurred at the intersection of Second Street and Lark Street.
The crash caused damage to two unattended parked vehicles and a fire hydrant.
All three officers involved in the collision sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for further treatment.
The 15-year-old, whose name will not be released due to his age, has been charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany County Family Court this afternoon.
