SHREWSBURY — A Worcester man was arrested Wednesday after fleeing police on a stolen motorcycle and running into a wooded area near a children’s daycare.
Officer Ostiguy spotted the motorcycle traveling eastbound on Route 9 around 3:56 p.m. without a registration plate and attempted a traffic stop.
The operator fled, leading to a brief pursuit during which he drove erratically, speeding, crossing marked lanes and running a red light at Lake Street.
Near the Auto Zone store at 542 Boston Turnpike, the motorcyclist jumped the curb into the parking lot and fled on foot into woods east of the store.
Police said officers were aware of a children’s daycare on the other side of the wooded area where the suspect was heading.
Fourteen Shrewsbury police supervisors, officers and detectives responded and established a perimeter around the area.
K-9 units from Charlton and Auburn assisted in tracking the suspect through the woods.
The suspect was located and taken into custody without further incident.
Police later determined the motorcycle had been reported stolen from Southbridge two days earlier.
Giancarlos Guzman, 21, of Worcester was charged with failure to stop for police, larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle to endanger, speeding, marked lanes violation and a red light violation.
