SALEM — Two people were arrested after a police chase that began in Massachusetts ended in a crash in Salem on Wednesday.
The Salem Police Department received a report at approximately 12:54 p.m. of an active vehicle pursuit coming into Salem from Methuen, Massachusetts.
Methuen Police and Massachusetts State Police were pursuing a Hyundai Santa Fe in the area of Hampshire Road in Salem.
The pursuit stemmed from an ongoing investigation involving vehicle break-ins in Salem on June 17.
Numerous vehicles had been broken into in Salem during the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 17.
One of the vehicles that had been broken into belonged to an off-duty officer from another jurisdiction whose police-issued rifle was stolen.
The pursuit turned onto Cross Street into Salem when the suspect vehicle forced a Salem Police cruiser off the road by nearly striking the Salem cruiser head-on on the Cross Street bridge over Route 93.
Massachusetts State Police, Methuen Police and Salem Police continued the chase onto Cluff Crossing Road and onto Route 28 where the vehicle ultimately crashed on the rail trail at the intersection of Cluff Crossing and Route 28.
Both occupants fled on foot and were captured after a brief foot pursuit.
The male suspect, who complained of unknown injuries, was taken in custody to a New Hampshire area hospital where he was treated and then processed at the Salem Police Department.
He was identified as Scott Marshall Sullivan Jr., age 34, last known address Derry, New Hampshire.
Sullivan at the time of this arrest was out on bail for several theft-related incidents in Salem, as well as a charge of resisting arrest.
Sullivan was held without bail at the Rockingham County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned before the Salem Circuit Court Thursday on charges of reckless conduct with deadly weapon, disobeying an officer, resisting arrest, operating after suspension for DUI, contempt, breach of bail and reckless operation.
Sullivan also has active warrants out of the Rockingham Superior Court that he will be arraigned on.
It is anticipated that Sullivan will also be facing charges in Massachusetts.
The female suspect was identified as Sarahann Jacobs, age 27, homeless.
Jacobs was released on personal recognizance bail for one charge of resisting arrest.
She has a future court date on this matter before the Salem Circuit Court.
