HOLYOKE — Holyoke police seized heroin, fentanyl, cocaine and crack-cocaine during quality-of-life property checks Tuesday aimed at deterring illegal drug distribution and open-air drug use.
At approximately 5 p.m., Detectives Michael Everett, Matthew Goulding and William Lebrun along with Sergeant Dustin Summers conducted a property check at 529 South Bridge Street.
Officers encountered several known individuals in the area who dispersed.
Officers then located an inoperable scooter with the seat lifted slightly.
A satchel was located inside the seat containing more than $900 in cash and 49 vials of crack-cocaine.
Around 6:15 p.m., the detectives and sergeant went to the Newton Street area for another property check.
They observed two subjects, later identified as Victor Albizu-Avellanet and Jessica O’Brien.
Albizu-Avellanet had a bundle of 10 bags of heroin/fentanyl and $140 in cash and was placed under arrest.
Officer Justo Pagan arrived to assist and located four vials of suspected crack-cocaine and 24 vials of suspected powder cocaine on Albizu-Avellanet.
Officers arrested O’Brien for trespassing.
Victor Albizu-Avellanet, 45, of Holyoke is charged with distribution of a Class A drug, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, possession of a Class A drug, possession of a Class B drug and trespassing.
Jessica O’Brien, 42, of Northampton is charged with trespassing.
