Lewiston police investigate shooting at immigrant services building

LEWISTON — Lewiston Police responded to reports of gunshots near the Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services building at 256 Bartlett St. just before 3 p.m. Monday.

Multiple witnesses told officers that a young Black male approached the center and fired multiple rounds from a handgun toward the building and nearby parked vehicles.

Officers recovered numerous shell casings at the scene and obtained video footage from surrounding businesses.

The suspect was last seen fleeing toward the wooded area behind Paradise Park.

Police said the area has experienced a high volume of shooting incidents over the past year.
