Moreau man arrested on weapon, child endangerment charges after I-87 traffic stop

MOREAU — State Police assigned to the Troop G Community Stabilization Unit arrested Darrius D. Burnette, 29 of Amsterdam, N.Y. for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle in the first degree, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations July 10.

Troopers stopped a vehicle on I-87 in Moreau at about 3:13 p.m. for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation.

The driver was identified as Burnette, and it was determined he did not have a valid driver’s license.

Also in the vehicle was another adult and two children under the age of 16.

With the assistance of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office a loaded illegally possessed handgun was discovered unsecured in the passenger area of the vehicle where the children had been sitting.

The gun which allegedly belonged to Burnette was seized.

Burnette was arrested and transported to SP Wilton for processing.

He was arraigned at the Moreau Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 cash, $40,000 bond, or a $200,000 partially secured bond.
