Auburn police arrest man in 2022 Byrne Dairy arson case

AUBURN — Police have arrested a man in connection with a dumpster fire at Byrne Dairy that occurred nearly three years ago.

Jonathan Heffle was taken into custody July 13 by the Orchard Park Police Department in Avon.

Auburn police officers were originally dispatched to Byrne Dairy at 70 Arterial East on Aug. 29, 2022, at approximately 4:35 a.m. for an arson complaint.

An employee of Byrne Dairy received a call stating that their dumpster was on fire.

The employee then called 911.

After reviewing security camera footage from Byrne Dairy, police determined the arson suspect had just been kicked out of the store by the employee.

The investigating officer identified the suspect as Heffle.

An arrest warrant was issued after the investigation.

Auburn police took custody of Heffle and transported him to the Auburn Police Department where he was processed on his warrant.

Heffle was then arraigned at the Cayuga County Jail.

After arraignment he was released from custody.

Heffle was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, a class E felony, and arson in the fifth degree, a class A misdemeanor.
