LEWISTON — Lewiston police are investigating a shooting that left a 14-year-old boy with gunshot wounds to his leg early Sunday morning near the Hill View Apartments.
Police responded to reports of gunshots in the area just before 2:30 a.m. July 13.
Officers conducted a thorough search of the area by cruiser and on foot, speaking with several residents who reported hearing gunfire.
Despite their efforts, no evidence of a shooting was initially found.
Later that morning, police were called back to the complex after the 14-year-old male approached a residence with two gunshot wounds to the leg.
The teen was transported to Central Maine Medical Center and then transferred to Maine Medical Center where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators revealed that all individuals involved, including the victim, had evaded police during the initial response.
A search warrant was executed at one of the Hill View apartments, resulting in the recovery of a firearm.
The investigation remains ongoing.
