ROYALTON — A 58-year-old New York man was arrested early Sunday morning after driving approximately 20 miles in the wrong direction on Interstate 89.
Vermont State Police troopers from the Royalton Barracks were notified at approximately 2:04 a.m. July 13 of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lane of I-89.
The vehicle nearly caused a head-on collision during its wrong-way travel, according to police.
Troopers located and stopped the vehicle near exit 3 northbound near mile marker 23.
The operator was identified as Dezhong Jiang, 58, of Flushing, New York.
Jiang was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Vermont State Police Royalton Barracks for processing.
He was charged with gross negligent operation and released with a citation to appear in Windsor County Superior Court, Criminal Division on Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m.
