Rensselaer man arrested on weapon charges after cyber tip investigation

SCHODACK — State Police arrested a 34-year-old Rensselaer man June 27 on weapon charges following an investigation that began with a cyber tip.

Craig M. Lewis faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

The investigation stemmed from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

State Police of Schodack worked with the Troop G Computer Crimes Unit, the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on the case.

During a search of Lewis’s Rensselaer home, investigators located and seized an illegally possessed firearm and an illegally possessed high-capacity magazine.

Lewis was transported to State Police Schodack where he was processed.

He was arraigned at Rensselaer City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.

The investigation is ongoing.
