HOMER — New York State Police arrested Calvin J. Verny-Rasmussen, 26, of Cortland on July 3 for crimes involving children.
Verny-Rasmussen’s arrest stems from a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children indicating that child sexual abuse material was being shared online.
The investigation by members of the Troop C Computer Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation revealed that in addition to promoting and possessing images consistent with child sexual exploitation, Verny-Rasmussen inappropriately touched a child under the age of 11.
He was charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, a class D felony; promoting sexual performance of a child, a class D felony; possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony; and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Verny-Rasmussen was processed at State Police Homer and turned over to the Cortland County Jail for centralized arraignment.
He was remanded on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
