SALEM — Multiple officers were dispatched to the area of 51 Harbor Street at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday on reports of a large fight in progress.
Responding officers found a chaotic scene with approximately 50 people creating a disturbance and refusing to disperse.
One individual, Cesar Pimentel, 35, of Salem, was observed operating a moped.
Pimentel was known to officers to have a suspended license and therefore not permitted to operate the moped.
During questioning, Pimentel became combative and ran from the scene when officers attempted to place him under arrest.
During the ensuing struggle, three officers sustained minor injuries.
Pimentel was found to be in possession of a loaded semiautomatic pistol.
Pimentel has been charged with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, improper storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct and multiple charges stemming from the unlicensed operation of a moped.
