AUBURN — The U.S. Marshals Service announced the arrest of Ja’bril Roynell Walters, 31, on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, use of a firearm in commission of a violent crime, and five counts of first-degree assault.
All warrants were issued out of Maryland.
The Maine Violent Offender Task Force received a lead from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force in Maryland indicating Walters had fled to Maine and may be hiding under an alias.
Walters had been wanted since July.
Task force members conducted investigations spanning Durham, Lewiston and Auburn before developing information that led them to a residence in Auburn.
Officers identified Walters inside the house and apprehended him without incident.
Walters was charged as a fugitive from justice, pending extradition back to Maryland.
“The Maine Violent Offender Task Force will go to unlimited lengths to bring dangerous fugitives to justice in order to keep communities in Maine safe,” said Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Josh Taylor.
The Lewiston Police Department assisted in the operation.
The Maine Violent Offender Task Force includes members from the U.S. Marshals Service, Maine Department of Corrections, Biddeford Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Maine National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service.
