GLENS FALLS — A member of the Green Jackets Football Team was arrested Saturday after leading police on a foot chase through Glens Falls High School and being found in possession of cocaine.
Jonathan J. Hammond, 32, was taken into custody at approximately 4:40 p.m. June 28 after school district staff reported a vape smoke detector activation in the boys’ bathroom.
Staff alerted the Glens Falls Police Department about a trespass in progress at the school.
Officers arriving at the scene observed Hammond walking in the high school lobby area.
When officers asked Hammond to stop for identification, he fled on foot through the building before being apprehended.
Police determined Hammond was a Green Jackets Football Team player who had permission to use only the football field and locker room.
Officers found Hammond in possession of a glass smoking device that tested positive for cocaine.
Hammond was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors.
He was released on an appearance ticket pending proceedings in Glens Falls City Court.
Police said additional charges are under investigation.
