Willet man charged with weapon possession, menacing after welfare check

WILLET — A 70-year-old man was arrested and charged with multiple felonies after officers responded to a welfare check call July 2.

James P. Allen of Bloody Pond Road was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a felony, and three counts of menacing in the second degree, a misdemeanor.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in Willet at approximately 2:18 p.m. for the welfare check.

Through investigation, authorities determined Allen attempted to injure another individual at the scene.

Allen was arrested at 3:38 p.m. and taken to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

He was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8:00 p.m. July 2 and remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.

Allen’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 4 at 6:00 p.m. in Willet Town Court.
