NEW LONDON — Police arrested a 23-year-old local man on weapons charges after responding to reports of gunfire near Connecticut Avenue and Pleasant Street late Saturday night.
Officers responded to the area at approximately 11:22 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple gunshots.
Evidence supporting the initial report was found at the scene, according to police.
Jayd Sanchez of 50 Center St. was arrested in the area and found in possession of a handgun, police said.
Sanchez faces multiple charges including carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a pistol, criminal possession of ammunition, illegal alteration of firearm identifiers and interfering.
Police said Sanchez also had an active warrant for violation of probation at the time of his arrest.
The Investigative Services Division processed the scene and canvassed the surrounding area.
No injuries were reported, though police noted there was property damage resulting from the incident.
Sanchez is being held on $150,000 cash-surety bond for the weapons charges and an additional $20,000 cash-surety bond for the probation violation warrant.
