BOSTON — A 16-year-old male was arrested on multiple firearm charges Monday night after police discovered a loaded ghost gun during a routine traffic stop in Mattapan.

Members of the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force made the arrest around 8:18 p.m. on May 12 after officers observed a vehicle improperly crossing two lanes to make a right turn from Blue Hill Avenue onto River Street.

Officers also noted the vehicle was missing a front license plate and had non-functioning tail lights.

Police initiated a traffic stop near 599 River Street and spoke with the driver about the violations.

During the interaction, officers noticed one of the rear passengers refusing to move his hands from his groin area, prompting them to request all occupants exit the vehicle for a pat frisk.

As the suspicious passenger was exiting, he dropped his phone and was assisted out by officers, who immediately felt what they recognized as a firearm tucked under the juvenile’s armpit.

The weapon was identified as a ghost gun with one round in the chamber and nineteen rounds in the magazine, equipped with a flashlight attached to the lower receiver and a green dot optic sight on the slide.

The juvenile was arrested and faces arraignment in Boston Juvenile Court on charges including possession of a firearm without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
