BERLIN — A vehicle rollover on 495 North, just north of Rt. 62, resulted in serious injuries and a large-scale emergency response early this morning.
Berlin Police Department, along with Berlin Fire & EMS Department and Bolton Fire-EMS, responded to the scene at 2 a.m. after reports of a motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, first responders found that a vehicle had not only rolled over but had also struck a pedestrian and a tow truck that was removing a disabled vehicle from the breakdown lane.
The impact caused the tow truck to roll over, ejecting its operator.
Initial reports suggested there might be other occupants in the rolled vehicle, prompting the Hudson Massachusetts Police Department to deploy their K9 and Drone units.
However, after an extensive search, no additional occupants were found.
The operator of the vehicle that rolled over was seriously injured and transported to a nearby trauma center.
The pedestrian involved in the accident sustained minor injuries but declined treatment.
The tow truck operator was not injured in the incident.
The accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by emergency and service vehicle operators on the road and the importance of adhering to laws that require drivers to move over or slow down when approaching stationary vehicles on the side of the road.
The Berlin Police Department extended their gratitude to the mutual aid partners for their rapid response and assistance during the emergency.
