Drugs, guns seized in Newburgh

NEWBURGH, NY — A search warrant execution led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of illegal firearms, drugs and cash.

Members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County Drug Task Force executed the warrant Tuesday at an apartment on Colden Street.

The operation concluded an investigation into the sale and trafficking of fentanyl and cocaine in and around Orange County.

Investigators recovered two loaded handguns, 130.6 grams of cocaine, 0.8 grams of methamphetamine, 81.8 grams of fentanyl and $5,106 in U.S. currency.

Alton Junior, 42, of Newburgh, was arrested.

Junior was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, a class A-II felony, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony.

Junior has an extensive criminal history and is on federal and Orange County probation.

Sheriff Arteta commended all members involved for their efforts.

“The dedication and professionalism of our investigators and law enforcement partners were instrumental in successfully executing this search warrant,” Arteta said. “We will continue to aggressively pursue those who traffic dangerous drugs, possess illegal firearms, and threaten the well-being of Orange County residents.”

Junior was arraigned in Newburgh Court and remanded to the Orange County Correctional Facility without bail.
