FRANKLIN, ME — A man was arrested after a road rage crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist on Blackwoods Road.
The Hancock County Regional Communication Center received a 911 call at 12:26 p.m. July 11 reporting the crash.
Initial reports indicated the operator of a pickup truck intentionally struck a motorcycle, forcing it into a guardrail.
The motorcycle lost control, left the roadway and crashed, resulting in serious injuries to the operator.
The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene.
Witnesses provided deputies with information, including the registration plate of the pickup truck.
Deputies from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded and initiated an investigation.
The motorcycle operator was transported to a local hospital before being flown by LifeFlight of Maine to another hospital for further treatment.
The operator remains in stable but serious condition.
The suspect vehicle was located and seized as evidence.
The operator of the pickup truck was identified as Shannon Abbott, 43, of Eastbrook.
Abbott was arrested and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
He was charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony; aggravated assault, a Class B felony; reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony; aggravated driving to endanger, a Class C felony; and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, a Class C felony.
The investigation remains active, and additional charges are possible.
The primary investigating deputy is Sgt. Rob Morang.
He was assisted by Deputy Taylor Keeran, Deputy Kamren Jennings, Deputy Greg Mailhot and Lt. Dakota Dupuis.
The Ellsworth Police Department assisted with the crash reconstruction.
Additional agencies assisting at the scene included the Hancock Fire Department, Franklin Fire Department and Northern Light Ambulance.
