GROTON, CT — Police are searching for an 18-year-old suspect who they said struck an occupied police vehicle while fleeing from officers attempting to serve a warrant.
Officers and detectives from the City of Groton Police Department, along with Ledyard police, attempted to serve an active warrant on Jaden Rivera, 18, of Groton, on July 9.
The warrant was issued July 7 from an incident that occurred in Ledyard in 2024.
Rivera was located at a residence on Shennecosset Road and officers attempted to apprehend him as he left the home and entered a vehicle in the parking lot.
Rivera ignored commands to surrender and the vehicle fled, deliberately striking an occupied Groton police vehicle during the escape, police said.
A second male entered the vehicle with Rivera, and it is unknown who was driving.
Officers began an immediate search and mutual aid was requested from neighboring agencies.
Troopers, officers, K9 teams and drone units responded from Connecticut State Police, Groton Town, Ledyard, Montville, Stonington, East Lyme, New London and DEEP.
The vehicle was located at Bayberry Lane Boat Launch, but Rivera and the unknown male had fled on foot.
An extensive search was conducted but neither individual was located.
The vehicle was seized and taken to the City of Groton Police Department.
The investigation is active and additional criminal charges are forthcoming.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the detective unit at (860) 445-2451.
