Girl struck, killed by school bus in Monsey

MONSEY, NY — A 7-year-old girl was struck and killed by a school bus Wednesday morning in the Monsey area of the Town of Ramapo.

The girl, of Monsey, was crossing the street in front of 182 Blauvelt Road at about 9 a.m. when she was hit, police said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver, a 28-year-old Monsey resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

The driver was screened for alcohol and drug involvement and showed no signs of impairment, police said.

Early investigation indicates speed was not a factor in the crash, police said.

No criminal charges are pending against the driver at this time, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Town of Ramapo Police Department Crash Investigation Unit.
