MECHANICSBURG, PA — A man was arrested June 24 after police said he stole a cell phone from the library and provided a false name.
Police responded June 19 at 12:04 p.m. to a report of a non-active theft at the library in the 1st block of North Walnut Street.
Video surveillance showed a man taking the phone, but his identity was not known at the time.
On June 24 at 10:53 a.m., an officer observed a man wearing the same clothing seen in the video.
The man provided a name that police determined was not his true identity.
He was positively identified as Ethan McKenzie, 26, of Mechanicsburg.
McKenzie was found to have active warrants and was taken into custody.
A search of his backpack, incident to arrest, resulted in finding the stolen cell phone and a small amount of marijuana.
McKenzie was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, false identification to law enforcement authorities and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
He was transported to Cumberland County Prison.
McKenzie was arraigned June 25 by Magisterial District Judge Mark Martin, and bail was set at $4,000 secure.
A preliminary hearing will occur at a later date.
