CORTLANDT, NY — A man was arrested on drunken driving charges after state police stopped his vehicle with a child inside early June 28, 2026.
New York State Police observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 9 in the Town of Cortlandt in violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law at approximately 2:45 a.m.
The operator, identified as Artemio Martinez Gonzalez, 34, of Yonkers, displayed signs of intoxication while being interviewed by troopers.
Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered.
Further investigation revealed that a 2-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time.
Martinez Gonzalez was placed under arrest and transported to State Police Cortlandt for processing.
He submitted to a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol content of 0.14%.
The child was safely released to a sober third party.
Martinez Gonzalez was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger, a Class E felony; Driving While Intoxicated with a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.08% or More, an unclassified misdemeanor; and Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor.
Martinez Gonzalez was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandt Court and released on his own recognizance.
