MATTAWAMKEAG, ME — Two people were arrested after deputies discovered a methamphetamine lab during a traffic stop on the evening of June 30.
Deputies with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle in Mattawamkeag that led to the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of illegal narcotics and a suspected “one-pot” methamphetamine laboratory.
Stephen Twist, 54, of Mattawamkeag, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.
Racheal White, 32, of Mattawamkeag, was arrested on active arrest warrants and was additionally charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, unsworn falsification after providing deputies with a false name, and violation of conditions of release.
During the investigation, deputies located crack cocaine and methamphetamine.
Deputies also discovered a suspected “one-pot” methamphetamine laboratory inside the vehicle.
Due to the hazardous nature of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories, the scene was secured and assistance was requested from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, whose personnel responded to safely assess and mitigate the hazards associated with the laboratory.
The Mattawamkeag Fire Department and Lee Rescue also responded to assist with scene safety.
