LEWISTON, ME — Lewiston Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with two separate shootings that occurred on the night of July 1, 2026.

At approximately 11:04 p.m., officers responded to the area of Oak Street and Holland Street following a report of a male who had been shot in the face.

Upon arrival, officers located a 60-year-old male suffering from an apparent facial injury.

The victim reported that he had been walking when a black or dark blue SUV pulled alongside him.

Several occupants inside the vehicle were yelling at him.

The victim turned toward the SUV and observed a passenger point what appeared to be a firearm in his direction.

He then heard a pop, felt immediate pain, and realized he was bleeding from his face.

The SUV fled the area immediately after the shooting.

Approximately 10 minutes later, at 11:14 p.m., while officers were still rendering aid to the first victim, Lewiston Police received a second report that a 34-year-old female had been shot in the face near Walnut Street and Bartlett Street.

Responding officers located the victim suffering from a similar facial injury.

Both victims were transported to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Using the City of Lewiston’s camera system and FLOCK technology, investigators quickly identified the suspect vehicle.

The investigation determined that Ahmed Yussuf, 18, of Lewiston, was the alleged shooter.

Due to the severity of their injuries, both victims were later transferred to Maine Medical Center.

The victims are expected to undergo surgery to remove the projectiles from their face and neck.

The male victim is listed in stable, non-life-threatening condition, while the female victim remains in serious condition.

Based on the victims’ injuries and the preliminary assessment of the treating medical staff and investigators, it is believed the weapon used was a high-powered pellet gun.

However, the type of projectile will not be confirmed until it is surgically removed from both victims and examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Yussuf has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless conduct.

He is currently being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $100,000 cash bail.
